Genetics

alleles- different forms of genes.

dominant gene- when 2 gametes fuse, each with a different allele for the same gene, the dominant trait is demonstrated (BB, Bb, bB).

genes- chemical factors that determine traits.
-found in locus (loci)

genotype- the genes you have.

Gregor Mendel- good at math, keen observer, good questioner
~P generation- parent generation
~F1- 1st offspring
~F2- cross of F1 offspring

heterozygous- 1 dominant and one recessive allele

homozygous dominant- 2 dominant alleles for a trait

homozygous recessive- 2 alleles of the recessive genes

hybrid- the mix of a dominant and recessive allele

phenotype- your physical characteristics (traits)

recessive gene- a gene that is phenotypically expressed in the homozygous state, but has its expression masked in the presence of a dominant gene (bb).
